These medieval and renaissance stone bows were popular in the 15th and 16thC in England, but date back to the early 15thC in Italy and earlier in China They shoot small rolled clay balls or more powerfully, lead shot.
The cheapness of clay balls means that it was very useful for small game and birds where bolts would easily get lost.
Stonebows are hand spanned and around 140lbs and accurate and fast enough for pigeons at 20m/20yds.
