This medieval style of hunting crossbow was used throughout the whole of the 15thC and used steel or composite bows. If the bows were steel they were often painted or had safety cords, or horn bolt clip as shown here.
This crossbow has a draw weight of 500lb and comes with a cranequin to span it.
