15thC medieval hunting crossbow

This medieval hunting crossbow is typical of Central and Western European hunting crossbows, with its distinctive shape and use of high levels of decoration, they make striking weapons.

This medieval style of hunting crossbow was used throughout the whole of the 15thC and used steel or composite bows. If the bows were steel they were often painted or had safety cords, or horn bolt clip as shown here.

These crossbows usually used a cranequin to span them but they work equally well with the more economic goats foot lever.

The crossbow can be supplied from 300lbs to 700lbs  (500lbs maximum for goats foot lever).

The crossbow comes with three free modern, feather fletched bolts.
