Early 16thC landsknecht '8 guard' - SOLD

Early 16thC landsknecht '8 guard'.  A very Landsknecht dagger with a bronze decorated fishtail pommel.  A slender horn grip and a delicate bronze guard formed like the number '8' on one side, hence the name.  The other half of the guard looks like it has broken off, but in fact it was made like.

This one-sided guard layout is very typical of German daggers of this period.  Double sided diamond section blade with an inlaid makers mark.

Double layered black vegtan leather sheath, with risers and finished with a bronze chape.

Blade length: 24cm/9.5"

Grip length: 10cm/4"

Overall length: 36cm/14"
