Viking or Saxon round shield - 70cm 298" diameter
The shield is constructed from 12mm or 1/2" plywood, tapered down across the face to 6mm or 1/4" at the edge. The inside and outside faces are covered in bonded linen canvas, filled with gesso and then painted lime white - ready for your motif!
The handle spar is made from ash and riveted in place and includes a veg tan guige strap, the boss is hand raised steel and the edge is finished with a rawhide rim.
