Pavaise medieval shield

This medieval shield, used for the defence of crossbow men,  can be constructed from 12mm ply or poplar planks and has no edging. Central valley contains and ash strut to allow it to free stand and allow the archer to shot freely.  Handle is formed from leather over rope.  

Covered both sides with linen canvas and gesso and painted lime white. The shield has no internal harness as it is not worn. 140cm high.
