This unique medieval sword is based very accurately on the IX949 Writhen Hilt Sword from The Royal Armouries, which I measured and handled personally for the project.
This iconic medieval German sword is a jewel of the Armouries collection and has a cast bronze hilt with fluted and carved wooden grips and a strong slender blade.
The original was gilded , but this has polished bronze fittings with a box wood grip and a poplar and leather scabbard fitted with fabricated steel hangers and chape.
Overall length 111cm/43.5"
Blade length 86cm/34"
grip length (onto pommel) 20cm/8"
Overall weight 1160g/2.6lbs
